We will offer a full refund or store credit for unused products if returned to us within 365 days of the order date. New, unused and unopened (for items that come in sealed packaging) merchandise will be refunded in full. Please note that:

Just an Average Shaving Cream

I begin by once again commending Fendrihan. Merchandise is reasonably priced, orders are promptly and accurately filled, and the customer service is superb. I have been wet shaving for decades and have used many different brands and scents of shaving creams and shaving soaps. My skin is on the sensitive side of average, but I don't think overly so. My go-to shaving cream is Geo F. Trumper's Limes Shaving Cream which I rate as five stars in every respect. I am using Geo F. Trumper's Limes Shaving Cream as the basis for comparison in this review. This review is based on two separate multi-pass shaves, days apart, with a Fatip Gentile Zebrano Closed Comb Safety Razor (Zebra wood handle). For one shave, I used a new Personna Platinum Red razor blade, and for the second shave I used a new Rapira Platinum Lux razor blade. The results of both shaves were substantially identical. On the plus side, Cyril's R. Salter's Essential Lime Shaving Cream easily creates a reasonably dense and abundant lather that remains in place on the face, and does not break down. The razor glided smoothly across my skin during its initial pass over the areas covered with Essential Lime Shaving Cream. The minus side was long and substantial. The tub appeared to me to be larger and significantly less expensive than Geo F. Trumper's. I was surprised to find that the former contained only 165 grams while the latter contained 200 grams, rendering the price differential largely immaterial. While the scent of Geo F. Trumper's Limes Shaving Cream was understated and did not offend, the scent of Cyril R. Salter's Essential Lime Shaving Cream was overpowering and artificial--more reminiscent of furniture polish rather than shaving cream. Though the Geo F. Trumper Lime Shaving Cream provided residual slickness for a touch-up of areas earlier but no longer covered with shaving cream, the Cyril R. Salter Lime Shaving Cream provided none--a second pull of a razor over any area earlier but no longer covered with shaving cream was akin to pulling a razor over skin that was almost dry. At the conclusion of each of the two separate multi-pass shaves--and allowing for the mildness of the razor--some portions of my face felt like they still could use another pass. But perhaps the ultimate fault is due to an oversight on my part: I failed to take note of the ingredients. The list of ingredients on the tub of Cyril R. Salter Lime Shaving Cream is long, very long. It is longer by about six ingredients than those listed on Geo F. Trumper Limes Shaving Cream and longer by far than those listed on many other popular shaving creams (including, especially Cella). And I was not familiar with many of the ingredients listed on the tub of Cyril R. Salter Lime Shaving Cream. I paid the price for my negligence. Following each of the two multi-pass shaves, I followed my usual routine: potassium alum applied to wet face, water rinse after several minutes, followed with a splash of witch hazel. When using Geo F. Trumper Lime Shaving Cream, there was no burn after the witch hazel had dried. However, after both shaves with Cyril R. Salter Lime Shaving Cream, my face burned for close to an hour afterward. I rated this product as three stars rather than one or two because others with different skin types might have a more positive experience than I did.

Cyril R Salter Essential Lime Luxury Shaving Cream

It's delightfully scented, but very thick. So much so that I find it buries itself in my brush if I put it in the bowl first, or on top of the brush (instead of dissolving). I've started dissolving it in a bit of warm water first and working it around with my finger. The lather it produces is thick, luxurious, and the scent is great. Glide is smooth with very little irritation. I'm not sure if the container I had was just a bit dried out, or if it's meant to be this thick, but overall, I quite enjoyed it.
